Position Description

The successful candidate will provide assessment, intervention and case planning for patients of all ages experiencing mental health and other psychosocial crises, within the emergency department framework. The successful candidate will also provide linkage to community and hospital services. Some telephone crisis counseling and occasional crisis coverage to various medical inpatient units and clinics is part of the role. Availability of shifts vary and can occur during day, evening or weekend.

  • M.S.W. from an accredited Faculty of Social Work.
  • Member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service workers (OCSWSSW).
  • Registered Social Worker (RSW). 
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and well under pressure within time constraints and effectively within a multi-disciplinary framework.
  • Effective interpersonal, communication, problem-solving and leadership skills.
  • Advanced assessment and counseling skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in crisis counseling and intervention.
  • Thorough understanding of the Child Welfare legislation and experience working with Child Welfare issues.
  • Previous experience working with mental health issues and current knowledge of accepted practices and legislation.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources.
  • Hospital experience an asset.
  • Satisfactory attendance and performance record required.
