Position Description

Status: Temporary Full Time   


The Supportive Care (Palliative Care) Oncology Clinic RN is an integral member of the Oncology health care team.
  • Graduate of a recognized college or school of nursing; BScN preferred
  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • CNA certification: CON(c) or CHPCN(c) preferred
  • Current certification in I.V. and CVAD management required.
  • Current BCLS
  • Minimum of two years active oncology/palliative nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CANO standards of care
  • Demonstrated ability to establish caring and therapeutic relationships with patients/families throughout the cancer experience
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Systemic Therapy, Radiation Therapy, Surgical Oncology, and Clinical Trials
  • Experience assisting physicians with procedures/interventions and knowledge of aseptic/sterile technique and infection control standards required 
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, prioritization and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a fast paced out-patient setting
  • Experience with PRCC electronic documentation processes and Microsoft Office Applications
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Satisfactory attendance and performance are required
  • Provides nursing interventions for actual or potential problems that the patient/family may experience related to symptom management, supportive and end of life care.
  • Coordinates continuity of care in order to navigate the patient/family through the trajectory of care in collaboration with the Systemic, Radiation, Medical and Surgery Oncology interdisciplinary teams.
  • Adheres to CCO telephone triage guidelines when practicing telephone triage nursing.
  • Implements the CVH Patient/Family Centred Care model into his/her practice.
