Title Research Associate, Saskatchewan Institute
The Saskatchewan Institute is a major initiative of The Conference Board of Canada that focuses on issues relevant to Saskatchewan. The Institute works with partners in Saskatchewan to produce research that helps public and private sector leaders sharpen their vision for Saskatchewan's future. The Research Associate will play a vital role in supporting the Saskatchewan Institute and the related annual Saskatchewan Forum.
This is a permanent full-time position located in Saskatoon.
Reporting to the Director responsible for the Saskatchewan Institute, the successful candidate will display credibility, maturity, confidence and professionalism.  Broad knowledge of issues related to Saskatchewan is critical.  To be successful in this role, you must be an exceptionally strong writer, competent with a variety of digital and social media, and comfortable engaging with senior leaders in business and government. Experience with and interest in organizing meetings and events is an important customer facing component of this role. You will have a basic understanding of financial management and a drive to help the Director deliver results on time and within budget. As a Research Associate working in a remote office location, you must be comfortable working at a distance from the team, possess professional and mature judgment, have experience working in a professional customer focused environment, bring energy and enthusiasm to deliver high quality services, possess strong business development skills and be an accomplished networker and spokesperson. 
Principal Duties


  • Support the Director in operating the Saskatchewan Institute. This includes:
  • Communicating effectively with investors or customers – through meeting notes, regular email contact, social media (specifically maintaining a twitter account), etc;
  • Identify trends and stay on top of areas of expertise and responsibility;
  • Identifying, coordinating, and facilitating additional services to investors and customers on relevant topics (e.g. webinars);
  • Preparing and delivering presentations;
  • Identifying and reaching out to prospects;
  • Articulating the business case for engagement in a compelling fashion;
  • Develop and update marketing materials, websites, spreadsheets;
  • Maintaining relationships with investors and potential clients;
  • Managing financial activities, including invoicing and accounts receivable.
  • Regular contributions to research activities and other projects, as assigned. This includes:
    • Designing and conducting qualitative and quantitative research;
    • Writing reports, either as the principal author or as a contributor;
    • Provide support to members of the researcher team as needed. This may include help with survey work, scheduling of key informant interviews, preparation of charts and graphs, assistance with bibliographies, etc
  • Help to achieve revenue/operating targets, investor targets, customer satisfaction targets, and quality standards. This may include creating critical paths, tracking progress and activities against deliverables, follow-up with internal and external stakeholders, tracking and monitoring of expenses, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and deliver the Saskatchewan Forum. This includes:
    • Identifying top issues, crafting dynamic agendas, and assembling the best speakers;
    • Coordinate all pre, during and post meeting logistics including participant, speaker and hotel venue/requirements.
    • Liaise with outside suppliers including hotels to ensure all meeting details and logistics are accurate including contract review, event orders, billing instructions and invoice review.
Skills & Qualifications
  • A Master’s degree in political science, public policy, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years working in a professional environment.
  • Strong content knowledge of issues relevant to Saskatchewan.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of meeting design, facilitation, adult learning principles and experience with a variety of meeting formats.
  • Research experience in a professional, customer-oriented environment with responsibility for managing projects from inception to completion.
  • High level of comfort and ability to work remotely from colleagues.
  • Demonstrated sales skills, customer relationship management techniques and results.
  • Experience with delivering formal presentations to executive level audiences.
  • Natural ability and willingness to share ideas and learnings with members and colleagues.
  • Solid project management skills.
  • An accomplished networker.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to influence.
  • Advanced writing skills and proficiency in synthesizing complex concepts and information from a variety of sources and a quick study on a breadth of topics.
  • Bilingualism is a asset.
  • Ability to travel is a requirement.
