The Communications department at Home Office in Toronto is currently seeking a Manager, Communications, reporting directly to the Vice President, Communications and Investor Relations.
 
Position Summary:
Working closely with senior management and fellow Communications department colleagues, the successful candidate will fully participate in the communications activities of the department. The role focuses primarily on internal communications, predominantly as a writer focused on corporate and employee communications, and will provide additional support in the broader area of media and investor relations. The successful candidate is a confident professional who is comfortable working with senior management and thrives in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Employee Communications:
  • Create and execute the annual employee communication plan including management of all activities and correspondence 
  • Research and stay current on emerging trends, best practices and opportunities in the field of employee communications with the goal of improving the execution of employee communications and engagement
  • Research, write, and edit all employee communications that reflect Cineplex Values, Mission Statement and strategic objectives including presentations, speeches, weekly Casting Call and company-wide memos
  • Research, write, edit and produce the Splice of Life newsletter, and the General Manager’s Conference Special Edition newsletter
  • Manage the Communications’ team’s role in the annual general manager’s conference.
  • Manage and execute two employee town hall events yearly (one in Toronto, one in Montreal) including providing counsel to senior managers on presentation content, proofreading and editing all related materials
  • Engage in regular dialogue with senior managers and other employees to maintain an understanding of the current employee communication challenges and requirements
  • Support internal initiatives that build employee excitement around our brands, core businesses, new business launches, and build upon our reputation as a leader in the North American motion picture exhibition industry
  • Play an active role in exploring innovative new ways to reach and engage associates through new communications channels, strategies and benchmarking.
  • Create and execute a social media plan to further engage employees including the launch of regular podcasts
 
Corporate Communications:
  • Research and write all corporate communications including presentations, speeches, select correspondence, and talking points for corporate executives ensuring communication material is thorough, accurate, complete and error-free
  • Research and writes organizational announcements and other sensitive communications
  • Work with the Operations department to assist them in handling sensitive guest services correspondence and issues
  • Provides support and counsel to internal clients, including senior leaders, offering recommendations on internal communications strategy, content, schedules and deliverables
  • Write investor relations presentations, annual report, annual general meeting presentation and quarterly scripts
  • Write all content for the investor relations portion of the website
  • Provide additional support for major company initiatives
  • Provide additional support for new and innovative communications deliverables including social media platforms
  • Contribute to team and social media initiatives as required
 
Required skills, knowledge and abilities:
  • Excellent judgment and strategic thinking, including the ability to identify and analyze issues and opportunities
  • Exceptional writing and communication ability with strong presentation skills
  • Strong relationship builder who is a quick learner and able to think quickly on their feet
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively articulate Cineplex’s vision, goals and initiatives
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering results in corporate and employee communications as well as media relations
  • Good understanding of financial statements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and high personal standards to continue to build upon the team’s reputation of delivering highly responsive, quality and strategic results
  • Demonstrated track record in working with others and proven ability to interact effectively with senior management to achieve shared objectives
  • Creative, professional, self-motivated and constantly looking to implement best practices in all areas of the communications field
  • Excellent project management skills and ability to effectively manage multiple projects and changing priorities
  • Knowledge of business (entertainment industry experience would be an asset)
  • Thorough knowledge of MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint computer software and a willingness to learn new programs
  • Fully proficient in English (reading, writing and speaking). French would be a definite asset.
  • Ability and willingness to travel (if required) and be flexible to work weekends and evenings when required
 
Desired skills, knowledge and abilities:
  • Self-confidence to work independently, with self-awareness to seek coaching, support and advice as required
  • Fully bilingual in French (reading, writing and speaking)
  • Demonstrated track record in social media
 
Education:
  • University or post-secondary education in communications, public relations, journalism, business or a related field
 
Experience:
  • Minimum of five to seven years’ experience in corporate communications, media or public relations including employee communications
  • Experience in investor relations with a publicly traded company
