The Information Technology department has an immediate opening for the position of Business Intelligence Developer reporting directly to the Director, Systems & Data Architecture.
 
Cineplex is engaged in a multi-year initiative to enhance our core applications with best in class business intelligence solutions.
 
The Business Intelligence Developer is responsible for the technical design, implementation plan and delivery of Operational Data, Data Warehouses, and Business Intelligence projects on the Microsoft Business Intelligence platform, with a focus on data visualization and presentation.
 
As a Business Intelligence Developer, you define the delivery effort and production release requirements and maintain deployed solutions. Furthermore, you provide vigilance over the configuration and management of our enterprise database environments.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop enterprise data warehouse business intelligence infrastructure and reporting solutions using leading Microsoft platforms:
    • Transactional system data collection jobs;
    • Data warehousing structure and design;
    • Data models and data modeling protocols and tools for possible distribution to key business power users;
    • Data restructuring and/or cubes to allow for quick, responsive comprehensive reporting;
    • Produce proof of concept reports to development team for refinement and deployment.
  • Administration and Management of MS SQL Servers across the enterprise:
    • Maintain inventory of database server assets;
    • Manage and execute shutdown, startup and DB backups in line with established corporate standards;
    • Maintain DB standards, policies and protocols for DB server configuration;
    • Coordinate with Computer Operations group for emergency production DB support, including testing disaster recovery scripts for DB systems;
  • Understand business requirements, working with business analyst / project management and software development team to create solutions:
    • Provide guidance and consultation during software development initiatives, especially when it comes to ensuring established standards and protocols are maintained;
    • Review and approve of DB schema and SQL programming involved in specific development solutions in line with established standards;
    • Assist with deployment procedures for DB portions of a solution - both during development, testing and the final production deployment.
  • Maintain DB standards, and ensure they are being followed:
    • Follow DB development standards documents – including naming conventions, login/account access methodologies, DB transaction protocols, etc.;
    • Working with the Manager of the Development team, follow SQL development protocol that ensures your review and approval of SQL code authored by the Development team;
    • Maintain protocol for SQL development version control that is well integrated with Visual Studio and the deployment process of the entire team.
  • Provide a commitment to assist with production support issues during non-business hours should an emergency arise.
 
Desired Skills and Experience:
 
Experience:
  • Minimum five years of progressive experience in information services covering a broad range of technical experiences, with a focus on Operational Data, Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, Business Analytics and Reporting Systems.
 
Education:
  • Three year university degree in computer science or higher.
  • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator certification.
 
Technical Skills:
  • Experience in implementing successful enterprise data warehousing solutions.
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills with Microsoft data warehousing technologies:
    • SQL – Microsoft SQL Server
    • SSRS – Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services
    • SSIS – Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services
    • SSAS – Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services
    • MDX – Multidimensional Expressions Language
  • A solid understanding of data visualization theory – a vision for data presentation.
  • Proven experience delivering one or more of the following data visualization technologies:
    • SQL Server Reporting Services
    • Power Pivot
    • Excel Web Services
    • Performance Point
  • Experience using SharePoint to deploy and share data visualizations.
  • Strong data modeling skills (normalized and multidimensional).
  • Some Oracle Administration experience is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate strategic requirements into reusable enterprise solutions.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills.
  • Motivated by long term results.
