Title Janitor
Position Overview Under the direction of the Operations Manager, persons are to understand and apply all techniques / skills of cleaning and facility maintenance. As a member of the facility team the position provides cooperative assistance within all areas of the business. The attitude demonstrated in fulfilling the responsibilities shows a clear understanding of our customers’ need for service excellence and are committed to it.

SAFETY:
Provide Health and Safety Leadership:
  • Is aware of the Facility Emergency Plan.
  • Is aware of location of First Aid kit and Incident Reports.
  • Ensures that all entrances are kept clear and safe of all debris and snow.
  • Supports and promotes a safe workplace
    • Elimination of Trip Hazards
    • Prevention of Slip and Fall Hazards
    • Properly stored tools and equipment in designated areas.
    • Safe use of equipment
    • Use of personal protective equipment
    • Proper use of hazardous materials
    • Certified in use of equipment and supplies as required. E.g. Elevated Work Platform, Propane Handling, etc.
    • Safe Work Practices – Lifting, carrying, etc.
    • Safe use and storage of hazardous materials
  • Is "WHMIS" and "Workplace Violence" trained.
  • Is aware of the location of the Defibrillator is and how to use it.
 
TECHNICAL / FUNCTIONAL:
  • Performs maintenance within the facility in accordance with local building and fire codes.
  • Perform quality janitorial work throughout the facility.
  • Change room cleanliness
  • Execution of tasks and completion of checklists
  • Cleaning washroom areas.
  • Cleaning shower
  • Outside parking lot / property cleanliness
  • Window cleaning.
  • Auto scrubbing, waxing and buffing floors.
  • Follow established floor care procedures
  • Vacuuming all carpeted areas.
  • Performing small maintenance jobs (example: changing lights, minor drywall repair, painting, minor electrical, minor plumbing, etc.)
    • Basic Plumbing (change faucet)
    • Painting
    • Dasher Board System Repair
    • Arena Glass Replacement
    • Hockey / Net Refurbishing
    • Drywall Repair
    • Property/Grounds
    • Other
  • Maintains appropriate checklists and records with respect to their duties, tasks and cycles.
    • Washroom Check Lists
    • Dressing Room Check Lists
    • Utility Readings
    • Other Janitorial Checklists (eg. lobby, arena)
  • May assist ice maintenance from time to time due to peak periods or unexpected short staffing.
    • Ice Depth measurement
    • Ice Chopping/Spudding
    • Assist in leveling the Ice
    • Assist in Ice Painting
  • Perform such other duties in maintenance as may be required such as operate tractor for snow removal, general snow removal, grass cutting, grass edging and general clean up of debris from the property outside of the building.

    • Re-lamping rinks or other fixtures
           
ENERGY & ENVIROMENTAL SENSITIVITY:
  • Ensures consideration for best practices in energy use management and environmental impact are employed.
 
Requirements
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours (evenings & weekends).
  • Good communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Strong, demonstrated general mechanical aptitude.
  • Grade 12 graduation (or equivalent).
  • Computer skills, comfortable with MS Office preferred.
  • Previous janitorial / maintenance experience preferred.
