Position Overview
Canexus is a chemical manufacturing and handling company serving customers for more than half a century. Canexus produces sodium chlorate and chlor-alkali products largely for the pulp and paper and water treatment industries. We also provide fee-for-service hydrocarbon transloading services to the oil and gas industry.
 
The Canexus plant in North Vancouver, British Columbia is a well-established Chlor-Alkali production facility with over 55 years of successful operating history which in 2009-2010, undertook a major technology upgrade that brought this facility to a state of the art operation. Canexus North Vancouver is currently seeking:
 

SENIOR HUMAN RESOURCES ADVISOR

(12-14 Month Maternity Leave Contract)

 

Reporting to the Director, Human Resources the successful candidate will combine in-depth knowledge of Human Resources and the organization to partner with clients in providing timely and effective programs and services. The incumbent will consult with clients and provide a wide variety of customer service in: labour and employee relations, recruitment and workforce planning, organizational effectiveness and compensation, and will be responsible to support Sales & Marketing; North Vancouver Facility and Nanaimo Facility.

 

Responsibilities

 
  • Coaching and guiding leaders on the interpretation and application of collective agreements and the discipline and grievance processes; provides leadership in labour relations for 3 collective agreements
  • Providing advice and guidance to leaders with respect to managing people and creating a positive culture
  • Investigating and analyzing complex and ambiguous HR issues within client group and developing recommendations for resolution
  • Organizational effectiveness initiatives including developing programs, plans, and policies to support business goals
  • Providing recruiting services for key positions within client groups; coordinating relocations as required
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with search firms and other recruitment sources
  • Supporting leaders and employees in accessing HR policies, programs and services
  • Proactively identifying HR trends and developments that may be of interest to the company or specific client groups and create plans to address any arising issues
  • Providing coaching, mentoring, and development to less senior human resources team members

 
Requirements
 
  • A CHRP designation
  • A post-secondary degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or Commerce
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in human resources and labour relations roles of progressive responsibility
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service and improved programs and policies
  • Creativity, innovation, and team-orientation
  • A proven ability to work effectively with key business stakeholders
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external stakeholders; the ability to express ideas clearly, both verbally and in written form
  • The ability to self-motivate, be an energetic team player, and be able to work well under pressure; to manage multiple priorities and initiatives; and to complete assignments on time
  • Attention to detail in the performance of duties
  • Knowledge of relevant trends, legislative changes, and court interpretations affecting human resources issues
  • An in-depth knowledge of a wide spectrum of human resource areas of practice
  • Ethics of the highest order which support the principles of human rights, adherence to statutes, and maintenance of confidential information
