Title Senior Automation & Systems Specialist
Position Overview
Our North American Terminal Operations (NATO) in Bruderheim, Alberta, reflects our ability to pursue creative growth opportunities. Recognizing its strategic location, we transformed the site of our former sodium chlorate plant at Bruderheim, Alberta into a storage and transloading facility to efficiently service the vast oil & gas and oil sands sectors in Alberta. We also currently use the site for transloading caustic soda and hydrochloric acid from our North Vancouver facility for use in both the oil & gas and oil sands sectors and the pulp sector in Alberta. SENIOR AUTOMATION & SYSTEMS SPECIALIST

 

Responsibilities

 

Project (Interim assignment) :

  • Develop Automation Project plans with the Automation & Growth PM/s to achieve overall Program deliverables
  • Interface with Project and EPCM to obtain design basis for system and configuration development
  • Lead Automation/DCS system design, vendor fabrication, installation, testing and commissioning
  • Lead design of related Automation & Information infrastructure (such as Control Rooms and Networks).
  • Lead DCS configuration and graphics design, development, testing, commissioning, start-up and as-build documentation
  • Ensure effective interface with DCS Vendor, MAC, EPCM, Canexus Terminal and Corporate for design of systems and control strategies
  • Review and approve (as owner) of EPCM design (such as P&IDs, Instrument Index, control narratives, SD Keys, data sheets) and vendor design (such as Control and IO cabinet layout, terminal layouts and assignments)
  • Lead review and approval (as Owner) instrument and electrical systems and equipment selection and design
  • Support development of Terminal instrument, electrical, automation and information systems standards
 
Terminal:
  • Establish processes and oversee site technicians in maintenance and administration of automation and industrial information systems
  • Interface with Maintenance leadership to ensure automation and industrial information systems work is planned and scheduled
  • Ensure implementation and maintenance of documentation and processes consistent with corporate policy and procedures (such as System standards, design documentation, System MOC, Change logs, Process Safety MOC/Variances)
  • Provide specialist Technical expertise to solve automation and industrial information system problems and or designs of new systems. Interface with corporate Automation and Industrial Information specialists for complex system and applications, advanced process control, optimization and design changes per corporate policy
  • Lead the development Automation and Industrial Information systems to support site managed Projects
  • Interface with Corporate Automation and Industrial Information systems department to develop and implement Terminal Optimization applications to improve safety, reliability and costs.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of system improvements and upgrades
  • Lead training and development of Terminal staff in maintenance and operations of Automation and Industrial Information systems infrastructure and applications
  • Lead the commission and start-up of systems on site and perform FAT/SAT’s as required
 
Requirements
 
  • Degree or Diploma in Control, Instrumentation, Electrical or Industrial engineering.
  • 10+ years engineering design and operational support of automation and industrial information
  • Academic level knowledge of Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation Systems (such as DCS, PLC, Pipeline monitoring) and Information Systems as applied to Industrial applications (such as Networks, Industrial data communications, knowledge of application programming, Terminal Management, Rail and Truck Management)
  • Academic knowledge of classical control theory
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment
  • Experience leading project teams and technicians
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and presentation skills
