Position Overview
Our North American Terminal Operations (NATO) in Bruderheim, Alberta, reflects our ability to pursue creative growth opportunities. Recognizing its strategic location, we transformed the site of our former sodium chlorate plant at Bruderheim, Alberta into a storage and transloading facility to efficiently service the vast oil & gas and oil sands sectors in Alberta. We also currently use the site for transloading caustic soda and hydrochloric acid from our North Vancouver facility for use in both the oil & gas and oil sands sectors and the pulp sector in Alberta. Canexus NATO is currently seeking:
 

LOADING OPERATORS (UNIT TRAIN)

 

As the successful candidate you will provide day-to-day support of our Unit Train Terminal Operations, ensuring safe performance, environmental compliance and efficient operation of equipment. Reporting to the Supervisor, you are a team player and support a culture where continuous improvement is a way of doing business. Our Bruderheim facility is a 24/7 operation and this role consists of 12 hour day and night shifts.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Provide day-to-day safe, efficient and environmentally sound operation of the Unit Train Terminal
  • Learn and progress through all operating positions within the Operations department
  • Working around and monitor both empty and loaded rail cars
  • Ability to understand and follow operating procedures and policies
  • Commit to Safe work practices through situational awareness, following standard operating procedures, receiving constructive criticism and watching out for the health and wellness of others
  • Prepare and load Unit Trains using fixed loading equipment and control panels.
  • General light mechanical maintenance, as well as cleaning, housekeeping and snow removal
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and follow-up on process issues
  • Maintain accurate terminal documentation including a shift log, reports, rail movement track sheets, etc.
  • Complete safety and environmental inspections and report deficiencies as needed
  • Work co-operatively and communicate effectively with others in the production facility
  • Completion of pre and post off-loading checklists
  • Sampling and storage of Hydro-carbon tanks and rail cars
  • Sampling and storage of Hydro-carbon tanks and rail cars
  • Handle problems as they arise and initiate steps to resolution
  • Capable to learn how to operate various transloading equipment (eg: Air comp, Boiler system, Incinerator, Transfer pump systems)
  • Work with Operations Supervisor to reach facility goals 
  • Mentor co-workers in job specific and function-specific tasks and duties
  • Partner with maintenance team to ensure facility operates smoothly 
  • May complete other duties as required
 
Requirements
 
  • Experience operating in an industrial setting is desired
  • Experience operating in an industrial setting is desired
  • 4th class Power Engineering certification is desired
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, goal oriented and a team player
  • Able to work independently and without close supervision.
  • Must practice good Industrial hygiene
  • Work within a self-relieving crew
 
Additional Information:

This position requires that you to work within a self relieving crew in the Operations department. Each crew will perform all work as a cohesive group, including troubleshooting, safe and efficient terminal operation as well as loading and offloading of various products.  The self relieving crew format is based on crew members working in various positions on a regular basis and assisting each other whenever required.  As you learn more about the terminal operation you will progress through each of the operating positions on your crew.  You will work a 12-hour rotating shift, averaging 40 hours per week.
