||Public Education Officer
||The Public Education Officer (PEO) plays a key role in promoting fire prevention and life safety in the community by heightening public awareness through the delivery of educational presentations to a variety of public and business groups. As an integral part of the Fire Prevention Division, PEO will review and revise existing education and safety programs as well as develop and implement new ones to address the ongoing educational needs in Burlington.
||The PEO will be responsible for preparing and delivering presentations, monitoring and reviewing feedback from those presentations, working with educators from other fields, and maintaining accurate records and statistics related to the educational programs delivered. The PEO will also provide fire and life safety training and support to members of business, community groups, health/long-term care facilities, and persons of all ages from pre-school children to senior citizens.
||A degree/diploma from a university or college in communications or a fire prevention discipline combined with experience in the development and delivery of educational programs is essential. Working knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code and other fire protection standards, codes, and regulations coupled with an understanding of the functional aspects of sprinkler, standpipe, fire alarm, voice communication systems, hazardous materials, and other factors relating to fire protection. A background in developing and delivering varied educational programs to a wide range of audiences or experience in adult education. Must also have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and a valid Class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license.
