| Position Overview |
Reporting to the Supervisor of Building Permits, the Building Technologist will be responsible for reviewing architectural/structural, building services and fire protection drawings for compliance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC), related regulations, standards and applicable law. |
| Responsibilities |
The Building Technologist is responsible for:
• Assisting and advising applicants on code compliance, interpretations and the approval process
• Ensuring that buildings are designed adequately in the areas of structural, fire and health safety
• Acting in an advisory capacity concerning design, construction, uses etc. of commercial, industrial and residential development
• Calculating building permit fees (including review of declared construction value) and maintaining database records

| Requirements |
The successful applicant will be a graduate of an Engineering, Architectural or equivalent program and possess at least three years relevant experience. Additionally, the incumbent requires the provincial qualifications as set out in the 2006 OBC (Div.C, 3.1.4.1.) for Legal/Process, Building Structural, Small, Large and Complex Buildings with expertise specifically in Part 3 of the OBC. The Building Technologist must also have in depth knowledge of Div. B, Parts 3, 4, 9, 11 and 12 of the OBC along with familiarity with Ontario Fire Code, CSA and NFPA Standards. Certification or eligible for certification with PEO, OACETT and/or OBOA (CBCO designation) are strongly preferred. Municipal experience and proficiency with AMANDA are assets. Exemplary customer service, communication and organization skills are also required. |
