Title Supervisor of Transit Business Services

Position Overview This position is responsible for the business administration and technology functions of the Transit section, including systems hardware and software, budgeting including Transit revenues, Bus Terminal operations, Revenue Management (Coin Room operations), and ticket sales.
Responsibilities As a key member of the Transit Department, the successful applicant will work closely with the transit management team to provide pro-active professional services with regards to the effective use of applications and technology. As part of this role, the successful applicant will be responsible for preparing for and monitoring the Transit Section’s Current and Capital Budgets including representing the Department on the transit budget team. He or she will also be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of staff, including assigning work, motivating, training, development and carrying out performance evaluations of staff.

In supervising business services for Transit, the successful applicant will be responsible for establishing Burlington Transit Ticket Sales Agencies within the City of Burlington, supplying tickets and passes, payment of sales commission, collection of revenues from agencies and daily operation of fare box and smart card system. He or she will manage contract cleaning and maintenance services for the Transit Administration Building and Bus Terminal; assist the manager in identifying technical needs and issues in the Transit division; lead or assist with business process models and reviews; and submit written reports detailing project plans, business case justification, business recommendations, and implementation schedule to Manager.

The successful applicant will be also responsible for administration of the Transit Office, statistics and data collection, as well as supervising the collection and deposit of Transit fare media and fare collection. Other duties will include: representing the Department on Divisional and Corporate teams as required; and providing assistance on special projects as required. In this role, the successful applicant will provide direct supervision, including employee evaluation and direction of work assigned to direct reports.
Requirements Applicants require a 3 year University Degree or College diploma in one of the following: Transportation Engineering Technology, Information Technology, Business Administration, Commerce or related field. In addition, applicants must also have 5 years related experience in a transit agency or operation, including 2 years in a supervisory position. Previous experience in information systems, business process change, and new technology is a definite asset. Previous experience with smart cards and systems would be beneficial.

Must be able to deal with time pressures associated with budget preparation deadlines, capitalize on project funding opportunities and ensure continuous coordination with other levels of Government in the delivery of capital programs.
