||This position is unionized and the hourly rate of pay is from $21.56 to $25.37 (2014 rates), plus an additional 12% in lieu of all benefits including vacation, and statutory holiday pay.

||Facility Maintenance Technician I (Auxiliary)
|Position Overview :
||Auxiliary Employees are employed on an intermittent or temporary basis for the purpose of relief, replacement or increased activities.
1. NATURE AND SCOPE OF WORK
This is technical, building service, custodial and maintenance work of limited complexity. The work involves operating and maintaining refrigeration systems, ice-making and floor maintenance equipment, ice installation and removal and carrying out a variety of janitorial and building and equipment maintenance duties. Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Maintenance, performance is reviewed in accordance with established policies, practices and procedures. The incumbent exercises some independence of action and judgement in performing work assignments and refers complex problems and policy issues to the Manager.
2. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK
Installs and maintains ice surfaces, operates ice-making equipment and deals with the public, groups and organizations using the facilities. Maintains and repairs refrigeration systems and a variety of equipment used in ice making, surfacing, and related arena operations.
Performs a variety of semi-skilled building and equipment maintenance and repair work including painting, carpentry, plumbing, and related tasks.
Performs a variety of custodial and janitorial work and may be required to assist with supervision of part-time employees as assigned.
Participates in constructing, assembling and removing set-ups for special events and program activities as assigned.
Provides assistance to the public, teams, groups, and organizations using the arena facilities as requested, ensures security measures are implemented and monitors conformance to facility rules and regulations as required.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
3. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of materials, methods and practices used in the operation of a refrigeration plant.
Skill in the use and care of a variety of materials, hand and power driven tools and equipment used in ice-making refrigeration, custodial, janitorial and building maintenance.
Ability to deal with the public in a courteous and effective manner and to maintain good working relationships with others.
Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures applicable to the work performed.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations that govern a public facility.
Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and maintain accurate records.
Ability to supervise and participate in the work of part-time employees engaged in facility maintenance.
Ability to respond to emergencies requiring the use of considerable independent judgement.
Ability to work with a minimum level of supervision.
4. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
Completion of Grade 12 including or supplemented by basic carpentry courses.
Two years experience in building maintenance and the operation and maintenance of ice-making equipment, and refrigeration systems.
5. REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES AND REGISTRATIONS
Valid B.C. Driver’s Licence
Fifth Class Power Engineer Ticket in Refrigeration.
