Position Overview Official title: Chief Scientist

Seeking an exceptional individual to fill the role of Chief Scientist for our engineering team. note – All applicants applying for this job opening must be US citizens and have the ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance. An existing TS/SCI preferred.

The Chief Scientist is a dynamic person able to lead the team of semantic researchers to establish and maintain the company's reputation as a technology research thought-leader. Establishing visibility and credibility in key technical domains is essential to continued R&D funding and future market traction for our Wave Platform product, which provides rapid solutions to customers’ complex integration needs. The Chief Scientist has lead responsibility for growing the company’s funding base for sponsored research.

The Chief Scientist must be a world-class technology professional who will help set the company's research direction and interface with customers, technology partners, and technology standards groups. This individual will be responsible for understanding and researching emerging technologies, standards, and market dynamics and evaluating how they represent competitive opportunities or threats as well as potential business partnerships. The Chief Scientist will also work with the Leadership Team to help formulate corporate strategy and product vision, addressing both near term product goals and future strategic goals and opportunities.

Candidates must possess highly-developed interpersonal skills, as presentations and partner/customer interactions are integral to the job.

The Chief Scientist leads the company's intellectual property pursuits, including the identification and development of patents as well as trade secrets.

The Chief Scientist contributes to and participates in relevant standards committees, particularly in the areas of semantic data integration and ontology modeling.

Responsibilities Position Details

*Drives technology aspects of the company's strategic direction
*Drives growth of sponsored-research funding targeted to product roadmap objectives
*Regularly authors white papers and articles for strategic publication channels, and speaking engagements at key conferences
*Contributes to and participates in relevant standards committees
*Works closely with customers to understand and meet their needs
*Regularly authors sponsored-research proposals (e.g., SBIR, BAA, etc.), often serving as Principal Investigator
*Provides technical due diligence support to the Leadership Team
*Works closely with Marketing to achieve optimal market positioning
*Researches new technologies and trends and works with Product Management for incorporation into the product roadmap
*Monitors technology evolution and assess competitive threats, opportunities and strategic technology partnerships
*Identifies and develops intellectual property opportunities
*Mentors staff and fosters their learning and growth
*Travel is required

Requirements Experience and Education Requirements

*Leadership experience at a senior level or above with 15+ years overall relevant experience

7+ years of software architecture design experience

7+ years of software development experience

*Technical Ph.D. degree
*Established track record of relevant technical publications, standard committee participation, and conference speaker experience
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills
*Excellent research and structured analysis skills
*In-depth knowledge and past publications in areas of semantic data integration and/or ontology modeling
*Knowledge of Java and J2EE environments
*Professional demeanor and experience interacting with senior business executives
*Ability to obtain a TS/SCI level clearance; an existing TS/SCI preferred
