Position Overview
  • The Commercial Underwriter is responsible for underwriting commercial mortgage renewals/annual reviews, ensuring compliance with the company’s established lending guidelines and requirements. Additional credit related and administrative duties are also required to support management and regulatory requirements. The Commercial Underwriter is responsible for communicating and co-operating with external business partners as well as staff within the Credit & Risk Management group and other internal departments.

  • 75% on a daily basis, the incumbent will analyze and underwrite commercial mortgage renewals/annual reviews, together with supporting credit related documentation for conventional, CMHC insured, construction and warehouse lending facilities. Attention must be made to ensure that compliance with the company’s established lending guidelines and procedures are followed with recommendations submitted to management for approval. The incumbent is responsible to ensure all criteria has been satisfied on underwritten commercial mortgage renewals/annual reviews and outstanding documentation/conditions, if any, are being met in a timely manner
  • 10% on a daily basis, the incumbent is responsible for time management of their work flow in order to meet prescribed deadlines.
  • 10% on a daily basis, the incumbent will communicate with internal contacts (managers, administrators, and commercial mortgage underwriters) and external contacts (Lending Partners and clients) to ensure transactions are processed in a timely and efficient manner in order to deliver superior customer service.
  • 5% on a monthly basis, the incumbent will be responsible for the preparation of specific reports on assigned categories required for the department/Company which will be relied upon by Senior Management.
  • Proficient underwriting skills with a minimum of 2 years commercial mortgage underwriting experience
  • University Degree or College Diploma is required, preferably in business or finance
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office (primarily Word and Excel)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective analytical and problem solving skills
  • Sound technical knowledge of secured lending and factors affecting the commercial mortgage market
  • Established organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities
  • Bilingual (English/French) is preferred but not required
