Title Cost Accountant
Position Overview Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Cost Accountant will work as an integral part of a team responsible for completing the accounting functions for Canonbie Contracting Ltd.
Key Responsibilities
  • Monthly analysis of SG&A and Overhead costs, providing detailed explanations for variances to plan
  • Completion and review of monthly entries, complex account reconciliations, and analysis, ensuring timeliness and accuracy
  • Build and maintain excel reporting models used for monthly and quarterly reporting
  • Cost reconciliations, matrix and reporting
  • Preparation of cash forecasting processes and ability to effectively communicate variances to expected results
  • Project cost reallocations
  • Complete and reconcile Contractor Agreements invoicing
  • Responsible for ensuring Canonbie is compliant with company policies and procedures including IFRS, Aecon policy and procedures, Bill 198
  • Responsible to ensure that all projects accurately reflect current progress of revenue and cost in accordance with Aecon revenue recognition requirements
  • Work with the other operating departments to resolve day to day operational issues
  • Preparation of monthly summary of operations reports in accordance with IFRS and Aecon policy and procedures
Required Knowledge & Skills
  •  Completion or near completion of an accounting program
  • Three (3) to Six (6) years of accounting experience within a publicly traded company
  • Demonstrated computer and software proficiency with Microsoft Office; Advanced Excel skills would be a strong asset
  • Excellent and proven organizational skills in order to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a high pressure work environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Demonstrates ability to problem solve and troubleshoot independently
  • Hands on supervisory experience is required
