Business Unit Overview

The joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and Aecon has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to carry out the Darlington Retube and Feeder Replacement (RFR) project. The project involves refurbishment of all four reactors at the Darlington Generating Station and consists of two phases – a Definition Phase and an Execution Phase. The Definition Phase includes the construction of a full-scale reactor mock-up to simulate key elements of the refurbishment work, and the development, procurement and testing of specialized tooling required for the project. The Execution Phase involves refurbishment of the reactor cores using the tools and methods that were developed and tested during the Definition Phase.

Title Area Manager - Retube Waste Processing Building
Position Overview

The Area Manager, Retube Waste Processing Building will be the project manager responsible for the successful planning, engineering, procurement, construction, and management of the Retube Waste Processing Building scope, ensuring safety and quality requirements are upheld throughout all stages of the Project.  As the project manager within the assigned scope, the Area Manager has full responsibility for ensuring that the project is completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with the Contract, Joint Venture Policies and Procedures, and legislative and labour requirements.  In this role, the Area Manager will be accountable to Darlington RFR Project Management and to the client on all technical and commercial matters relating to the assigned scope of responsibility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for timely execution of the assigned scope in all project management capacities
  • Act as the interface between the Joint Venture and Customer, on matters relating to assigned scope
  • Responsible for implementing and managing the budget related to the assigned scope, and addressing any potential scope impacts to the project
  • Responsible for project planning and scheduling activities
  • Ensure that all project work activities are in compliance with local legislative and labour requirements, contract requirements, and Joint Venture Policies and Procedures
  • Interface with project controls to update cost and schedule reporting metrics
  • Ensure preparation and submission of project documents, as specified by contract, to the client.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to client, as required
  • Chair project meetings and ensure preparation and distribution of meeting minutes.
  • Ensure all work activities are performed safely, in collaboration with the Project Safety Manager
  • Responsible for assembling a project organization to implement the assigned scope – including: Engineering, Procurement, and Construction resources
  • Identify project risks, problems and issues as early as possible; ensure mitigating actions are in place to minimize impact, and elevate to senior management as appropriate relative to severity
  • Implement initiatives to improve project processes, to achieve net improvements for key performance indices
  • Identify potential work scopes and opportunities for growth

 

Required Knowledge & Skills
  • Project management knowledge and experience
  • Post-secondary university or college technical degree and/or equivalent work experience (P.Eng an asset)
  • Engineering drawings interpretation
  • Contract law knowledge and contract management experience
  • Supervision experience
  • Nuclear Quality Assurance program knowledge
  • Engineering Change Control program knowledge
  • Analytical ability and effective decision making
  • Organizational skills
  • Situational awareness and effective problem solving skills
  • Inter-personal communication and negotiation skills
  • Computer proficiency – Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Access, Visio, PowerPoint, Outlook
