Title Human Resources Consultant – 1 year contract

Position Summary

Human Resources Department

(1 year contract starting June 2013)
Reporting to the Director, Human Resources Consulting & Labour Relations, the HR Consultant provides oversight and operational support for the Talent Acquisition team. The HR Consultant oversees full cycle recruitment end to end, which includes providing clients with innovative solutions to ensure attraction and retention of talent and coordinating duties within the Talent Acquisition team. The HR Consultant also ensures that managers comply with all College policies, procedures and legislative requirements pertaining to managing human resources and is responsible for day-to-day HR general inquiries. The Consultant engages in HR generalist activities to improve human resources management at the College, participates in HR-related projects and sits on various College committees, as required. 
  • Overseeing the recruitment and selection process, including advising hiring managers on how to prepare job postings, sourcing and screening candidates and participating on interview teams
  • Actively participate in end to end recruitment as needed
  • Provide advice and guidance to managers to ensure fairness of the recruitment process and compliance with College policies and procedures, including Collective Agreements
  • Assists in the development of guidelines, procedures and/or policies for administrators and/or HR staff with respect to recruitment and selection, and other HR issues
  • Maintains relationships with external vendors (i.e. HireDesk, LinkedIn) and ensures that appropriate contracts are in place, negotiate contracts and terms as applicable
  • Liaising with internal administrators to provide advice on general HR issues, and liaise/collaborate with internal HR partners as appropriate
  • Participating in developing HR programs and initiatives and making recommendations for process improvements
  • Appropriately assesses and escalates complex issues to various HR Partners (i.e. Labour Relations, Disability Management, Compensation)
  • Participate in HR Projects and committees as required
  • Three year College diploma or three year undergraduate university degree in Human Resources Management and/or equivalent combination of education and experience, CHRP is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years related work experience with end to end recruitment and experience working in an HR generalist capacity
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and difficult issues in a confidential manner, strong sense of judgment
  • Interpretative understanding of Human Resources directives and guidelines, collective agreements and employment legislation, and ability to apply them in practical situations
  • Experience providing HR services in a diverse, multicultural environment; including experience with unions
  • Strong customer service focus, with a proven ability to participate effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of PC applications such as MS Word, Excel, e-mail, internet

Salary Range $59,207 to $ 74,009 annually (Payband 9)
